Another name of the chair could also be “Islamic traditions meet Scandinavian design”.
The idea for this project was to design a sitting object inspired by traditions. As a firm believer that economies should be sustainable I added an extra twist for myself – the object should be made of locally available materials (in Uzbekistan), affordable and easily buildable. Naturally, the choice of a material fell on the wood.
This stool was inspired by poplar tree trunks used as a structure for traditional mud walls in Central Asia as well as by carved tables, which, back in the days, were only available to the royalty due to their intricate patterns and carvings adorning them.
The image is a prototype made in summer 2014.
